Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):The annual meeting of the Governing Council of the Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD), IIUI was held here at Faisal Masjid Campus of the university. Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, Rector of the university and Chairman of the IRD’s governing council, chaired the meeting which was also attended by IIUI President, Dr. Hathal Homoud Al-Otaibi. Webinar on Role of S and T Universities in Promoting National High-Tech Growth

Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):NUST Institute of Policy Studies (NIPS) organised an International webinar on the “Role of S and T Universities in Promoting National High-Tech Growth” on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. Leading national and international experts in the domain of science technology, and innovation participated in the webinar.

Among the speakers were: Prof Atta-ur-Rahman, Chairperson of the Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Science and Technology and the founding Chairman HEC; Prof David Sampson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation, Surrey University, United Kingdom; Dr Malcolm Parry, the founder of Surrey Research Park, U.K.; Dr Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector, Research, Innovation and Commercialization, NUST; Prof Kun Qu, Professor, School of Life Science, University of Science and Technology, Hebei, China; and, Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan, Principal, NUST School of Social Sciences and Humanities and DG NIPS.

Prof Atta-ur-Rahman spoke on “Innovation Transforming Economies: Universities of the future”. Prof David Sampson and Dr Rizwan Riaz spoke on “Challenges of Producing High-Quality S and T Talents” and presented British and Pakistani perspectives on the topic. Dr Malcom Parry spoke on “Creating Win-Win International University-Based S and T Collaborations.” Prof Kun Qu showcased the R and D strengths of the University of Science and Technology as one of the major higher education initiatives of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The webinar discussed the role played by leading universities in promoting high-quality sustained growth as well as the challenges of ensuring S and T-based and innovation-driven national development.

Chairman of Board of Directors and CEO of Netsol Technologies Ltd visits NUST

Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):Mr Najeeb Ghauri, Founder, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and CEO of Netsol Technologies Ltd, visited NUST on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. He met with Dr Rizwan Riaz Pro-Rector, Research, Innovation and Commercialisation, as well as Dr Osman Hassan, Pro-Rector Academics NUST. Avenues for enhancing long-term bilateral relations between NUST and Netsol were discussed. A multi-faceted partnership in different domains including research and development, hiring of NUSTians, and engagement of Pakistani diaspora in the United States, was also discussed.

The meetings were followed by a visit to Pakistan’s first Interdisciplinary Cluster for Higher Education (NICHE), where the distinguished guest was given a guided tour of the facility, including labs in deep learning, image analysis, reinforcement learning, system analysis, immersive technologies etc. Later, Mr Najeeb Ghauri was hosted at a lunch by the Advancement team, and Principals of different NUST constituents. Mr Najeeb Ghauri is a long-standing partner of NUST, who has been supporting our development initiatives since 2017. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees NUST Trust Fund (NTF).

Faculty of Pharmacy Holds a Dean’s Honour Role Ceremony

Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):Dean’s Honour Ceremony of Faculty of Pharmacy was held on July 01, 2021 at Auditorium A1. Among all, fifty students were given certificates on their academic excellence. Forty-Nine students were given Dean’s Honour certificate whereas Chancellor’s Honour was given to one student. Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dr. Samra Bashir, Dr. Mahboob Alam, Dr. Nadia Shamshad Malik and Mr. Muhammad Tariq Khan distributed the certificates among the students. At the end of session, Dr. Muzaffar Abbas, Dean Pharmacy congratulate the students and wish them the best of luck in future.

ORIC Holds a Three Weeks Long Workshop on “Information Security and Forensics”

Islamabad, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):Information Security is a process of preventing unauthorized access, counter threats, confidentiality, disruption and modification of business information, and protecting companies’ data which is secured in the system from the malicious purpose. A breach in digital security can cause serious problems and countless damage to the organization’s image and exposure of secrets. Having important information leaked or stolen can result in serious financial problems and can even lead to bankruptcy of an organization/institution.

Considering the importance of Information Security in today’s digital world, Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with Tech Flickers (First SECP Registered Incubation company of CUST) organized three-week short training course entitled “Information Security and Forensics” starting from 18th June 2021.

The training was conducted by Mr. Arslan Akram (Tech Flikers Pvt Ltd, CUST). The closing ceremony was graced by Dean Research and Innovation, Prof. Aamer Iqbal Bhatti, and HoP, Software Engineering, Prof. Aamer Nadeem. After a welcome note by Assistant Director, ORIC, Chief Guests were requested to distribute certificates to the successful candidates. More than thirty students from CS, SE and EE departments attended the course. The ceremony concluded with acknowledging remarks and significance of Information Security and protection against cyber-attacks for organizations in present world, presented by Prof. Aamer Nadeem and Prof. Aamer Iqbal Bhatti.

Naat, qiraat contest held at GCU

Lahore, July 08, 2021 (PPI-OT):A seminar on Sufism in Punjabi literature was held here at the Government College University Lahore under the auspices of Punjabi Department. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi chaired the seminar which was addressed by eminent Punjabi scholar Dr. Shaista Nuzhat.

In her keynote address, Dr. Nuzhat said that promotion of Sufism was necessarily important for peace and tolerance in the society. She spoke in detail about the importance of having institutions like GCU that focus on Islamic history and Sufi education besides social sciences and natural sciences. Dr. Nuzhat appreciated the initiative as taken by the First Lady of Pakistan Mrs. Bushra Imran to establish the Al-Shazli Research Centre a Sufism (ARCS) at new campus of GCU.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Zaidi said the Sufi teachings are key to global peace. He shared the progress made about the establishment of the Sufism center, saying that the Sufis of the punjab were play key role in research at the center. Punjabi Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed Khawar Bhutta also addressed the seminar.

Naat, Qiraat contest held at GCU

The Hazrat Hassaan Bin Saabit (R.A.) Internal Naat and Qiraat Competition was held here at the Government College University Lahore under the auspices of its Debating Society. A large number of male and female students from different departments of the university participated in the contest. Main Muhamamd Talha Farooqi secured the first position in the Qiraat contest, while Muhamamd Ihsan and Hafiz Ali Akbar stood second and third. Zainab won the first position in Naat competition, while Mariaum and Ansar secured the second position. Ali Luaqman and Muhammad Azam secured the third position. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi congratulated the winners of the competition.
