Karachi: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) organized a rally titled 'Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir' on Wednesday, demonstrating solidarity with the people of Kashmir. The event was spearheaded by Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, starting from the university's main building and concluding near the IT Tower. The rally saw participation from SMIU's deans, heads of academic departments, faculty members, officers, staff, and students.
According to Sindh Madressatul Islam University, Dr. Sahrai addressed the rally by condemning India's actions in Occupied Kashmir, specifically the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, which stripped Jammu and Kashmir of its special autonomous status. He criticized this move as a violation of United Nations resolutions supportive of the Kashmiri people.
Dr. Sahrai proposed the creation of a think tank consisting of academia across the nation to strategize on assisting the Kashmiri people. Emphasizing the need for practical action beyond rhetoric, he highlighted the ongoing oppression in Kashmir and called for a collective effort to support their struggle for self-determination. Furthermore, he urged for guidance in education, research, defense, and other areas to aid the Kashmiri cause and asked SMIU employees to contribute actively to this effort.
