PTI Criticizes Sindh Government Over Increasing Road Fatalities and Ineffective Transport Policies

KARACHI: PTI Karachi General Secretary Arslan Khalid has strongly criticized the Sindh government and Provincial Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, highlighting a rise in traffic accidents and what he termed as ineffective transport policies in the province.

According to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Khalid expressed serious concern about the escalating number of road accidents in Sindh, accusing Memon of conducting transport meetings that serve as mere photo opportunities rather than addressing the core issues. Despite these meetings, Khalid argued, the roads of Sindh remain perilous, with citizens at risk. He accused the provincial minister of being consumed with administrative tasks while failing to address the public safety crisis on the roads, characterizing the government's performance as inadequate.

Khalid criticized the Sindh government's transport initiatives, such as the introduction of pink scooties and a limited number of buses, as superficial measures meant to deflect attention from more pressing issues. He emphasized the need for a focus on basic road infrastructure over promotional projects that do not ensure public safety. Khalid described the highways from rural Sindh to Karachi as hazardous, with no road in the province safe from accidents due to deteriorating conditions and poor traffic management.

He further condemned the Sindh government's handling of public safety, citing corruption and flawed policies by the Pakistan Peoples Party as factors in the transport sector's decline. Khalid called for the immediate declaration of a transport emergency in the province to prevent further loss of life, urging the government to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete action.
