Workshop Highlights Opportunities for Pakistani Students in China’s Knowledge-Based Economy


Wah: The University of Wah recently hosted a workshop focusing on China’s higher education system and its knowledge-based economy, aligning with the 75th anniversary of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations. Conducted in a hybrid format on May 14, 2026, the workshop aimed to explore academic and economic opportunities for Pakistani students, particularly emphasizing gender inclusion in academia and leadership roles.



According to University of Wah, the event was organized under the CPEC Consortium of Universities in collaboration with the Women Development Department, Government of Punjab, as part of the Chief Minister of Punjab Female Ambassador Program. The workshop, hosted by Dr. Asma Arif and Ms. Maira Kashaf Raja, aimed to foster gender-inclusive participation in innovation and economic development.



The session drew over 200 participants, including academicians, researchers, and students from various institutions, to discuss the enduring Pakistan-China partnership and address global challenges such as climate change and public health. Prof. Dr. Saleem Iqbal delivered the keynote address, emphasizing universities’ roles in building knowledge-based economies and highlighting global innovation trends and opportunities for Pakistani students in China.



An interactive question-and-answer session allowed participants to deliberate on youth roles in enhancing Pakistan-China cooperation. The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Amjad Hassan, who thanked the Women Development Department and university leadership for their support in promoting gender-inclusive initiatives and acknowledged the achievement of student Ms. Misbah Zafar, who received a significant grant for her project. The workshop ended with a pledge to continue supporting women’s roles in innovation and the knowledge ecosystem.
