Islamabad: The University of Sargodha (UoS) held a three-day training program on breast self-examination for over 400 female students and faculty, focusing on early detection and promoting overall wellness.
The training, organized by the Department of Psychology and the Counselling Centre, coincided with the upcoming World Mental Health Day and its theme of collaborative mental well-being support.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, along with Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Masood Sarwar Awan and other senior officials, inaugurated the session. Prof. Abbas reiterated the university’s dedication to female health through education, study, policy support, and community engagement. He also mentioned the UoS One Health Center’s contribution to diagnostic and preventive healthcare.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ilyas Khan, a Mammacare Certified Breast Specialist and Certified Lactation Consultant, led a session emphasizing the significance of early identification, consistent self-checks, and community backing for women’s comprehensive health. Dr. Khan also donated the certification and registration costs of the internationally recognized training to the UoS students.
Department of Psychology Chairperson Prof. Dr. Najma Iqbal highlighted how self-care practices empower individuals to take charge of their health. The program included interactive workshops, demonstrations, and counseling, aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 3 for good health and well-being.
