JAMSHORO, The University of Sindh in Jamshoro conducted the first phase of its pre-entry tests for admission into various bachelor degree programs for the 2024 academic year on Sunday. Out of a staggering 21,318 applications, 9,240 candidates, including 1,730 women, took part in this segment of the examination.
According to a news release by the University of Sindh, Vice-Chancellor Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Siddique Kalhoro was actively present on the exam day, inspecting the centers and overseeing the entire process. He was joined by a significant contingent of the university’s faculty and administration, including Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Shah and Director Admissions Prof. Dr. Ayaz Keerio, among others.
The examination, which began promptly at 10:00 am, had a duration of 90 minutes. To facilitate a smooth examination process, distinct halls were allocated for female candidates at institutes such as the Institute of Biochemistry and the Institute of English Language and Literature. Male candidates, on the other hand, were spread across faculties like the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
This phase of the test saw a diverse turnout. Candidates hailed not only from 16 districts within Sindh – including Dadu, Larkana, and Karachi – but also from provinces like Punjab, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reflecting the university’s widespread appeal.
In his media interaction, Dr. Kalhoro lauded the structured and orderly manner in which the test was held. He credited its successful execution to strategic two-phase planning that efficiently tackled challenges such as costs and potential overcrowding. Pointing to an uptick in the number of applications from the preceding year, Dr. Kalhoro inferred it as a testimony to the growing stature of the University of Sindh. Furthermore, he apprised the media of the introduction of four novel academic disciplines and the commencement of the LLB program at the main campus.
Noteworthy arrangements were in place for the comfort and welfare of the candidates. Medical facilities were on standby, a control room was operational for coordination, and shuttle services were provided for candidates coming from nearby regions like Hyderabad and Kotri. Parents and guardians were also catered to, with distinct areas set aside for them. Post-examination feedback from the test-takers was positive, with many appreciating the organization and the security measures in place.
Dr. Aftab Chandio, Director of the Sindh University Testing Center, announced that the results of the phase-one test would be unveiled the same day. As per the schedule, the second phase of the entrance test will unfold on October 29, with 12,078 candidates, including 3,741 females, set to appear.
