Karachi: President Wasif Rizvi of Habib University addressed the Class of 2026 during their convocation, urging them to prioritize humility over self-interest in a world he described as plagued by a "crisis of cognition."
According to Habib University, President Rizvi's speech focused on the importance of rejecting a global culture dominated by narcissism and self-display, calling instead for the practice of Tawadu, which he defined as an intellectual tool essential for overcoming isolation and self-centeredness. He contrasted Western educational systems, which he criticized for fostering arrogance, with Habib University's values of grace and institutional generosity, embodied in the university's foundational principle of Yohsin.
In his address, Rizvi encouraged graduates to be "soft-hearted, intellectually sharp trustees of the earth," using their education to engage in continuous ethical repair. He emphasized that the true measure of their lives would be found not in accumulation but in the ongoing effort to repair a world rife with violence and challenges.
