Tribute to Sindhi Poet Maqsood Gul Held at Arts Council Karachi

Karachi: The Lok Virsa Committee of the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, organized a tribute at Haseena Moin Hall to honor the renowned Sindhi poet and scholar, Maqsood Gul. The ceremony was attended by prominent literary and academic figures, including Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Professor Altaf Aseem, Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai, Dr. Riazat Buriro, Adil Shah, Tariq Aziz Sheikh, and the Chairman of the Lok Virsa Committee, Dr. Ayoub Sheikh, alongside a large gathering of poets, writers, and literature enthusiasts. Yasir Qazi hosted the event.

According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, described Maqsood Gul as a beacon of knowledge, love, and humanity, highlighting his significant contributions to Sindhi literature and his enduring legacy as a sincere and selfless literary figure. Mehtab Akbar Rashdi lamented that society often forgets its poets and writers but commended such events for keeping their memories alive. She called for greater recognition of women and youth in society and praised Maqsood Gul for his selfless dedication to literature. Rashdi also noted his Urdu translations of Sachal Sarmast's Persian poetry and urged the publication of Maqsood Gul's twelve unpublished poetry collections.

Other speakers, including Professor Altaf Aseem and Dr. Riazat Buriro, emphasized Maqsood Gul's devotion to truth, beauty, and Sindhi culture, as well as his role in fostering cultural awareness. Adil Shah recalled Gul's fatherly presence and commitment to education, while Dr. Mujeebuddin Sahrai encouraged the younger generation to read and understand literature before venturing into poetry. The event concluded with a collective acknowledgment of Maqsood Gul's lasting impact on Sindhi literature and a call to preserve and promote the works of past and future generations of writers.
