3-Days training programme on ‘Entrepreneurship in Dairy Industry’ complete at UVAS

Lahore, February 03, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Department of Dairy Technology of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab (L and DD) under the project of ‘Capacity Building of dairy farmers and industry stakeholders on milk value chain’ organised concluding ceremony of three days training programme on “Entrepreneurship in Dairy Industry”.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad (SI) chaired the concluding ceremony of training and distributed certificates among participants while Project Director Dr Muhammad Junaid and 15 participants / professionals from public and private sectors were present.

Crescent Model Higher Secondary school students visit UVAS

Lahore, February 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):The students from Crescent Model Higher Secondary School along with their teachers visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore. They had an interaction with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, in which Prof Nasim briefed them about the university history, academic and research activities and also told them about the flagship programs of the university. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad added about the UVAS role in development of livestock sector and its clinical services for the treatment of animals.

He spoke about the advisory services of UVAS for the guidance of livestock, poultry and dairy farmers to enhance their profitability. He highlighted the scope of veterinary education, research and other allied sciences professional degree programme. He said our vision of UVAS to produce trained graduate who playing their lead role in the development of livestock sector as trained human resource. Prof Dr Nasim shared awarded 1,370 scholarships during the last year and total amount awarded in these scholarships was over Rs.101.28 million, he added.

The students also asked several questions about the role of UVAS, its services for the welfare of livestock farming community, scholarships and vision. Crescent Model Higher Secondary School teachers and a large number of students from were present on the occasion.

Sheep and goat farmers of Quetta trained on ‘Wool Marketing, Cutting and Breed of Wool’ at UVAS 

Lahore, February 02, 2023 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in collaboration with Livestock and Dairy Development Department Baluchistan and Islamic Relief Fund arranged two-days training on ‘Wool Marketing, Cutting and Breed of Wool’ for sheep and goat farmers of Quetta at UVAS Veterinary Academy.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the concluding session of the training and distributed certificates among participants of training while Additional Director Planning Quetta Balochistan Dr Abdul Jabbar, Director Veterinary Academy Dr Muhammad Ikram and 40 farmers/participants were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nasim briefed the participants about the current scenario of livestock and livestock products in Pakistan. He also briefed about the flood relief activity of UVAS for Balochistan and apprised the effort of Islamic Relief Fund for the sponsoring such training for capacity building of livestock farmers. The participants of the training also bring the hand made products of wool and displayed at veterinary Academy for the interest of audience, faculty and students. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad visited and checked the quality and standards of hand made products of wool.

Various aspects have been discussed during two-day training related to wool marketing, breeds of wool in Pakistan, method shearing and processing, feed formulation for wool production in small ruminants, revival of cottage industry, self-employment, value addition with increasing profitability, create awareness of modern techniques and small ruminants herd management etc. Exposure visit to Meat Science and Technology Slaughter House, Meat Shop and Pet Centre of UVAS were also conducted during training.

Dr M Laiq Raja paid visits at UVAS

Lahore, February 01, 2023 (PPI-OT):Renowned Health Care Specialist, MD, Fallow American Collage Cardiology (FACC), EI Paso Cardiology Associates America/UVAS Alumni Dr Mohammad Laiq Raja along with his family members paid visits to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad here on Wednesday at City Campus.

Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad briefed Dr Laiq Raja on the UVAS academic, research, extension, advisory services and training programmes. He showed a UVAS video documentary to Dr Laiq Raja to give an overview of UVAS research, development interventions, achievements in curricular and extra-curricular activities and student strength along with national and international collaboration etc. Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad also mentioned the contribution of UVAS flood relief activities in the worst flood affected areas of Pakistan for the help of flood victims by provided them daily routine necessary items related to food, animal feed and goods.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Laiq Raja acknowledged the role of UVAS for providing clinical and disease diagnostic facilities to livestock farming community. He also praised UVAS state of the art disease diagnostic labs facilities and its leadership role for the development of university in well organised manner. Later Dr Laiq Raja along with Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad visited various departments of City Campus including Biosafety level-3 lab, Veterinary Academy, Meat Processing Plant, Pet Center, Students Hostel and Sports Complex etc. During his visit he planted sapling in students hostel (Jinnah Hall).

The Institute of Continuing Education and Extension holds Extension Leadership Development workshop at UVAS Ravi Campus 

Lahore, January 27, 2023 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Continuing Education and Extension (ICE and E) arranged ‘First Extension Leadership Development Workshop’ at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore’s Ravi Campus Pattoki. The objectives of the workshop were the capacity building of participants on whole farming system, rural development, extension approaches and various innovative teaching tools and communication skills.

Director (ICE and E) Dr Hassan Mahmood Warraich chaired the inaugural session of extension leadership development workshop while 25 faculty members from Livestock Assistant Diploma (LAD) affiliated institutes from (Layya, Jhang, and Pattoki) and students were present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Hassan Mahmood Warraich said that multidisciplinary approach in the extension education is the only way to improve farmer livelihood and their profitability as well. Research Manager Ms Humera Iqbal and Abdul Aziz facilitated to conduct this workshop to support participants understanding on creative facilitation methods and livestock assistant role in extension.

As a follow-up of each training workshop participants will initiate extension program around 10-15 villages of each respective LAD affiliated institute. The faculty members and their students will provide improved farm advisory services to farmers in different villages to improve the productivity and profitability of livestock farmers. A framework was also provided to the participants to improve their scientific writing skills as well. Various aspects discussed during workshop related to latest technical knowledge regarding animal husbandry and communication skills and scientific writing tools.

13th UVAS Alumni Reunion to be held on 18th March, 2023

Lahore, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):The 13th Annual Alumni Reunion of the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore is schedule to be held on 18th March, 2023 at City Campus Lahore. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad presided over the executive body of UVAS Alumni Association meeting while General Secretary Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Vice-President Dr Hanif Nazir Ch, Vice-President Dr Asim Mehmood Khan, Joint Secretary Dr Anwaar Hussain Rizvi, Press and Media Secretary Dr Asif Rafiq, President Sindh Prof Dr Ahmed Sultan Jatoi, Representative from (RV and FC) Lt. Col (Retd) Dr Hammad Ahmed Hashmi and Assistant Director Dr Muhammad Awais Asif participated in the meeting.

It was decided that all the alumni across the globe are invited to attend the event. All the members of the committee gave their valuable suggestions to conduct the event in a befitting manner. Later, UVAS Business Incubation Center of the University of Veterinary and Animal Science (UVAS) Lahore arranged seminar on “Pakistan`s Largest Social Entrepreneurship Challenge for Students” at City Campus. A motivational Speaker Mr Kashif Ali Shah delivered a informative lecture to UVAS students.
