Youth Leadership Development Training Programme held at UVAS

Lahore, November 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Character Building Society of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in connection with Iqbal Day arranged ‘Youth Leadership Development Training Programme’ at City Campus on Thursday. Director Iqbal Academy Pakistan Prof Dr Baseera Ambreen, Social Reformer Mr Sultan Khan and Young Iqbal Scholar and Youth Activist Mr Zahid Hussain were the guest speakers.

They delivered motivational lecture to UVAS students on the topic of construction of Islamic leadership behaviour and the secrets of the self (khudi). They also highlighted the efforts of Dr Allama Iqbal his role in the creation of Pakistan and especially his lesson for youth regarding self-respect, high morals, justice, straightforwardness and democracy through his thought-provoking poetry. Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Prof Dr Mian Abdul Hafeez and number of students from different departments of UVAS attended.

Earlier, Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IBBT) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore arranged a seminar on “The Role of Genomics in Developing Country Animal Agriculture” at UVAS Pasha Academic Block.

Renowned Biometrician (Statistician) from University of Sydney, Australia Mr Peter C Thomson was the guest speaker who delivered an informative lecture to UVAS students while number of UVAS senior faculty members attended lecture. Various aspects have been discussed during seminar related to livestock breed improvement through genome analysis and genetic marker assistance.

UVAS holds acknowledgement ceremony four flood relief volunteer teams who performed their duties in flood-affected areas 

Lahore, November 05, 2022 (PPI-OT):The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore in connection with UVAS Flood Relief Campaign 2022″ arranged an acknowledgement ceremony in the honour of flood relief volunteer teams who performed their duties day and night with full of dedication in the worst flood-affected areas including Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Fazilpur, Taunsa Sharif (Phase-1), Karor Lal Eason Layyah, Rojhan, Charsadda (Phase-2), Khairpur and Lesbela (Phase-3).

Former governor Punjab Lieutenant General (retd) Khalid Maqbool presided over the ceremony and distributed appreciation certificates among UVAS flood relief volunteer teams and various committee conveners and members. He also presented souvenirs among the donors (friends of UVAS) who donated cash and kind for the noble cause.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Former UVAS Vice-Chancellors including Prof Dr Manzoor Qureshi, Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, Officials from Livestock Department, Convener UVAS Flood Relief Management Committee Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz, deans, directors, chairmen/chairpersons, principals from different sub-campuses of UVAS, flood relief management committee members, nine flood relief volunteer teams, donors (Friends of UVAS) and number of faculty members were present.

While addressing the audience, Khalid Maqbool this year due to destruction by heavy floods the livestock farming community is facing economic losses in Pakistan. He acknowledged the role of UVAS students, faculty members and administration in fund raising and distribution of relief items among the flood-hit people with transparent manner. He urged students to learn about innovative skills and best practices related to veterinary profession to compete with developed countries graduates. He said it is direly needed to provide maximum opportunities of entrepreneurs to our young graduates/students for their better future.

He said that a large number of stakeholders, students, researchers and farmers not only from Punjab but also from all over the Pakistan getting maximum benefits from UVAS through its quality of education and research. He said UVAS always play a lead role for the uplift of livestock sector and contributing in national economy of Pakistan. He said I am really glad to see that UVAS flourishing day by day with state of the art laboratories and infrastructure development for practical work of their students.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad said that UVAS launched a flood relief campaign with the mission ‘Save Livestock, Save Communities’. He said UVAS in collaboration with local L and DD officials conducted a survey of flood-affected areas to see the real extent of damages and the relief needs and used GPS technology for this purpose. He mentioned UVAS organized national and international donor conferences, arranged relief camps and collected donations worth Rs 25 million in cash and kind. He shared we received international donations from Canada, Germany, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK and the USA.

He also spoke UVAS sent nine volunteer teams to flood hit areas in all the four provinces to provide veterinary services, basic medicines, vaccines, feed, etc., to the stranded livestock apart from the provision of items of basic needs and ration to affected people. He said I also visited the flood-affected areas and inspect relief activities and efforts of our teams. He also said to ensure transparency we kept on regularly updating information about our relief activities on the university website and set an excellent example of relief work for other HEIs. He thanked all the donors who showed trust in UVAS.

Prof Dr Nasim also mentioned the ideas regarding livestock emergency services guidelines, develop a course on disaster management and request the government for fee waiver of students from flood-affected areas etc. Later, Convener UVAS Flood Relief Management Committee Prof Dr Muhammad Ijaz presented the vote of thanks.

UVAS Flood Relief Volunteer teams successfully provided veterinary services at the doorsteps of flood victims to save their animals from diseases. During flood relief activities total 25898 large and small (buffalo/cattle, sheep and goat, horse, dog and cat) animal treated, 9815 animal vaccinated, 265 seed packets, 2222 animal feed bag (vunda) distributed along with other necessary daily routine items related to 875 ration bag (hygienic food), 306 clothes (blanket, quilts, shawls), shelter, kitchen unit and medicines among the poor livestock farming and deserving families of flood affected areas in phase-1, phase-2 and phase-3 with transparent manner.

13th UVAS Convocation to be held on 23rd November 

Lahore, November 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The 13th convocation of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore has been scheduled to be held on 23rd November, 2022 at City Campus Lahore. Chancellor/Governor Punjab Muhammad Baligh Ur Rehman will preside over the convocation.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired a meeting of the conveners and secretaries of subcommittees and reviewed preparations/arrangements for the 13th convocation. The conveners of sub-committees briefed the meeting on the working of their respective committees. Full dress rehearsal for the convocation will be arranged at City Campus on 22nd November.

Representative from UniLaSalle France visits UVAS

Lahore, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Dr Aamir Shehzad, a representative from the UniLaSalle Agro-Veto University France, paid visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad here in City Campus.

Dr Aamir interacted with the UVAS students to open the avenues of higher education in France. He said that UniLasalle is a Polytechnic Institute resulting from the merger of five engineering schools and the creation of a veterinary school. He said this institute is a new generation of Grande Ecole which unites the sciences of Life, Earth, Environment and Energy with industrial sciences and digital technologies. He said this institute is a specialized agriculture and veterinary university. The students ask various questions about the admission procedure and eligibility criteria.

UVAS committee to guide students for Fulbright Scholarships 

Lahore, November 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad chaired a meeting with the Awardees of Fulbright Scholarship 2023 at City Campus. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor announced constituting a committee to guide, inspire and support its graduating students to compete for and win Fulbright Scholarships for Master’s and PhD studies in the United States. He said that the university wants to increase the ratio of its graduating students wining the prestigious Fulbright scholarships.

This year four graduating students of UVAS have won Fulbright Scholarships for postgraduate studies in 2023 in the US. The students who have won scholarships for PhD studies include Dr Muhammad Anas Afzal, Dr Muhammad Awais Ajmal and Ms Adila Khalil while Dr Aqsa Iqbal will pursue her Master’s degree. The awardees also shared their experiences about preparing for GRE and admission procedure.

CEMS organised awareness seminar on Breast Cancer at UVAS

Lahore, October 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Center for Emergency and Medical Services (CEMS) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore in collaboration with Pink Ribbon Organization and Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital organised awareness walk and seminar on Breast Cancer with the theme of “We Hope, We Fight, We Will Win” here on Thursday in City Campus.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad led the walk while Chairman Department of Parasitology Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf, Senior Tutor Prof Dr Ali Raza Awan, Dr Muhammad Irfan Siddique and number of students and faculty members were participated. Later, Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf chaired the seminar. In seminar speakers spoke about the introduction, awareness prevention, management diagnosis and treatment of the breast cancer.

The objective of the seminar was to create awareness among the students, faculty members and general population especially woman who are prone to this virulent disease and also convey information to public regarding diagnostics method and treatment techniques and management of the patient etc.

Earlier, Qirtas-UVAS Litrary and Art Society of the Senior Tutor Office arranged a seminar in the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore on Literature History and Ahd-e-Hazir of Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) at City Campus. In which Justice (Retired) Nazeer Ahmad Ghazi was the guest speakers and he delivered an informative and motivational lecture to UVAS students while number of faculty members attended lecture.
