Lahore, July 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):Team UMT-CONNECTED on behalf of AAQIC is proud to announce that UMT has been shortlisted by The Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2021 for the Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year. The finalist institute in each category will be announced at the THE Live Asia event taking place on the 14th and 15th December 2021 and the awardees’ names will be published on THE Awards Asia website.

Times Higher Education Awards has been a landmark event in the United Kingdom for the past sixteen years. In 2019, after establishing itself as a distinguished name among higher education institutes, THE Awards took its platform overseas. The event has received great response on a global level. It is considered to be a versatile platform by the universities to promote their institutions on an international forum. It brings to light the brilliant success stories of outstanding leadership and institutional performance of Universities working towards positive change.

We have a staunch faith in the fact that Asian Universities Summit 2021 will prove to be an excellent opportunity for the University of Management and Technology in order to have its efforts, innovations and leadership recognized internationally. Lahore, July 07, 2021 (PPI-OT): A Workshop on Olympic Movement/Olympism was arranged by the Office of Participants Affairs UMT in collaboration with Pakistan Olympic Association. The workshop was organized to celebrate the International Olympics day that focuses on encouraging people to stay healthy and fit.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Vice President POA, Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General POA, Muhammad Jahangir, Deputy Secretary General POA, Parvaiz Ahmed, Secretary General Pakistan Gymnastic Federation, Usman Ahmed, Secretary General Pakistan Fencing Federation, Ahmer Mallick, Secretary General Pakistan Table Tennis Federation, Amjad Amin Butt, Secretary General, Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, Muhammad Arshad Sattar, Secretary General , Pakistan Wrestling Federation, Manzoor ul Hasan Sr, Former Olympian Hockey, Inam Butt, Wrestler, Muhammad Bilal , Wrestler, Talha Talib, Weightlifter, Qualified for Tokyo 2020, Afshan Nooreen, Hockey player, members of the Office of Participant Affairs and students.

The workshop commenced with an introductory note by the moderator, who explained the significance of the day, its history and the Olympics movement. She welcomed the athletes who took out time from their busy schedules and graced the event with their presence. An awareness session was organized to educate the attendees about the history of the association and the motto behind Olympism.

Muhammad Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General POA in his address highlighted how he wished to uplift the stature of sports in Pakistan as well as to bring the Olympics medal home in the coming times. Chaudhry Muhammad Yaqoob, Chief Guest and Vice President POA in his address stated that sports is not about winning alone but encourages youngsters to participate and make peace and friendship with their peers and contemporaries.

A chat with the champ session was also arranged for attendees in which guest players talked about their individual sporting journeys and how they conquered their fears to accomplish their sporting goals. Abid H K Sherwani, Director General UMT in his thank-you note said that the need of the hour is to make sports a vital part of the education system. He congratulated the team members of the Office of Participant Affairs for their efforts and later distributed souvenirs among the guests.

Sialkot, July 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):MoU regarding clinical rotation of Health Sciences students between Knowledge Unit of Health Sciences and Bethania Hospital was signed by the Worthy Director Campus Prof. Dr. Zafarullah Khan (SI) and by Director Bethania Hospital Mr Shamoun Tariq. Both organizations agreed to work together in terms of providing services to the ailing humanity and to provide an opportunity to the health sciences students regarding their hospital rotations. Dr Danyal Ahmad, Head, KUHS UMT, Dr. M. Iqbal Ghumman MS, and Mr Hamza, from Bethania Hospital were also present at the event. Afterwards, MS Bethania Hospital offered visit to various departments of the hospital to Prof. Dr. Zafarullah Khan (SI).

Sialkot, June 28, 2021 (PPI-OT): UMT congratulates and feels proud of the winners of the Short Story Writing Competition held by the Department of English and Literary Studies (DELS/ILA). Director Campus Dr. Zafurllah Khan (SI) awarded Rs 10000 cash prize and a souvenir to Fatima Anwar Butt (1st position) and souvenirs to Rabia Ahmed and Maryam Zulfiqar (2nd and 3rd positions respectively). Lahore, June 21, 2021 (PPI-OT): A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the University of Management and Technology UMT and City News Network, one of the largest media groups, with 1 international and 4 national news channels. The MoU was signed by Dr Muhammad Aslam, Rector UMT and Salim Bukhari Group Director Digital media, City News Network.

The ceremony was witnessed by Mohsin Naqvi, CEO City News Network, Gohar Ejaz, Patron in Chief, APTMA, Salim Bukhari, Group Director Digital media, City News Network, Khuram Kaleem, Director Programming, City News Network, Mian Tahir, Director News Channel 24, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President, UMT, Prof Abid HK Shirwani, Director General, UMT, Lt Gen (R) Javed Hassan, Advisor to the President UMT and Dean’s/UMO Heads.

In his address, Ibrahim Hasan Murad, President UMT highlighted the importance of industry-academia linkages and assured maximum support to the media industry through several possible collaborations. Gohar Ejaz, Chief Guest also announced 100 Scholarships for deserving UMT students. The aim of this MoU is to create a strategic alliance and seamless linkage among both the parties to cooperate in areas of learning and development as well as to facilitate training, internships and career development prospects for participants, staff and alumni.
