Multan comes to an exciting conclusion 

Karachi, February 21, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Excitement begins as the department of Human Resources (HR) organized the Sports Gala under the umbrella of Employee Engagement activity. The Indus Super League (ISL) is an annual event that takes place throughout Pakistan at several Indus Institutes. The tournament took place over a week of festivities.

Fourteen teams from Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH), Muzaffargarh, and Multan Institute of Kidney Diseases (MIKD) participated in the tournament. On the last day of the tournament, the first semi-final was played between MIKD’s administration team, “Shair Dils,” and RTEH’s team Cardiology department team, “Challengers.” In a thrilling six-over match, the Challengers scored 75 runs, which the Shair Dils could not match, as they made 71 runs, losing by four runs.

In the second semi-final, MIKD’s Reception team, the “Dominators,” competed against RTEH’s finance team. The Dominators could not meet the required 120 runs scored by the Finance team and piled up only 36 runs in their allotted overs.

In the final eight-over match between the Finance team and Challengers, the Finance team set a target of 86 runs. Cardiology Challengers chased the target in 6.1 overs and won the title of IHHN Sports Gala, ISL – Multan.

The Closing Ceremony

The winning team was awarded a first prize trophy at a grand ceremony held at the conclusion of the tournament. From the Cardiology Challengers, Muhammad Junaid received the player of the series while Muhammad Rehan, from the Cardiology Challenger, was declared Man of the Match. Medals were also given to all the players of both teams.

Trophies, Shields, and certificates were given to the tournament players, management committee, and volunteers by the distinguished guests. The Chief guests consisted of Dr. Muhammad Shamvil Ashraf, Executive Director, Medical Services, IHHN; Anees Abdul Aziz, Head of HR, IHHN, Sunil Inayat Ali, Senior Manager, HR, IHHN; Umair Abbasi, Senior HR Business Partner, IHHN; and Shumaila Abid, Assistant Manager, HR.

Guest commentator Amyn Gilani, who came from the Korangi Campus, Karachi, kept players’ emotions alive with his commentary in the final match. His humorous style continued to make the atmosphere pleasant throughout the games.

Karachi, February 17, 2022 (PPI-OT):Indus Hospital and Health Network’s family medicine department introduces the Family Medicine Practice Training program, a course that promises to elevate your practice through a blended learning model.

Creating a pathway for candidates into family medicine, FMPT offers flexible online sessions and clinical attachments facilitated by nationally and internationally recognized trainers and teaching faculty. After 1 year of structured training, participants will be able to impart preventive, diagnostic, curative and rehabilitative health services to patients presenting to primary care in Pakistan.

Palliative Handbook Material Launch Event to Drive Health Information Forward

Karachi, February 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN) announced the publication of its Palliative Care Material and Bereaved Parent Mentor Program at an event held at the Korangi Campus on Thursday, February 10, 2022. The handbook publication and videos were a joint effort of IHHN in collaboration with the Sanofi Espoir Foundation.

The event was attended by senior members of IHHN, including Dr. Zafar Zaidi, Senior Executive Director of IHHN and Dean of Indus University of Health Sciences, and Dr. Saima Saeed, Director of the Lung Health Program. In addition, esteemed doctors and faculty from Aga Khan University, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital were in attendance. The bilingual handbook and videos are part of a program that aims to help and train healthcare workers about Palliative care.

CPEM: Indus Continues its Journey Towards Health Emergency Preparedness

Karachi, February 14, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Certification Program in Emergency Medicine (CPEM) is conducting the third batch of its 12-month competency-based training program. CPEM is to equip physicians working in emergency departments (EDs) with the fundamental knowledge and clinical expertise in the practice of emergency care. Emergency Medicine (EM) specialists initially developed it from The Indus Hospital and Health Network (IHHN), Karachi, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital – a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School Boston, USA and launched at TIH in July 2018.

CPEM graduated its first batch in July 2019 from IHHN (with participants from hospitals across Karachi), its second from IHHN in 2021 (also with participants from hospitals across Karachi, and after the second batch transitioned to mostly virtual learning due to the pandemic), and began its third batch in June 2021. For the first time, the 2021 batch consisted of candidates from Pakistan and Bangladesh as well as participants from The Indus Hospital and Health Network.

The program is run in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania and is hosted by The Indus Hospital and Health Network and Dhaka Medical College. The core and visiting faculty are a multi-national team from countries worldwide. Its graduates have become leaders in EM and have helped to advance the specialty locally.

Emergency Department in Collaboration with the Emory University Conducts the Second CAT-C Program 

Karachi, February 10, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Emergency Department conducted the second edition of the Collaborative Advanced Trauma Care (CAT-C) program in January- February 2022. The first course was conducted at the Indus Hospital, Korangi campus in September 2019. CAT-C was conducted in collaboration with the Global Emergency Medicine section of Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The second program took place at the Korangi Campus; Badin; and Muzaffargarh campuses.

The program aimed to provide inter-professional training and develop trauma teams to reduce morbidity and mortality in trauma-related cases. The program took place over a span of 10 days; 3 days in Karachi, one day in Badin, and three days in Muzaffargarh.

Both nurses and doctors attended the program. The latter were divided into small groups and overlooked by a mix of local and international faculty facilitators. They were encouraged to work in teams to manage various trauma-related cases. Medical officers and residents from Emergency Medicine, Urology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency Resuscitation Nurses attended the program.

The trainers’ team included: Dr. Stephanie Busby, Trauma surgery and critical care medicine, Assistant professor Emory University; Emily Russell, RN, BSN, TCRN, Emergency Medicine and Trauma Grady Hospital; Dr. Anna Yaffee, Assistant professor and Director of global health in emergency medicine section, department of Emergency Medicine Emory University. At the end of the program, in order to assess their knowledge, all the candidates sat for an exam. The successful candidates were handed certificates and special CAT-C pins at the closing ceremony.

IHHN collaborates with Experts from USA to conduct Advance Trauma Courses at RTEH, Muzaffargarh

Karachi, February 08, 2022 (PPI-OT):IHHN worked with specialists from the USA to establish a Collaborative Advanced Trauma Course program for the Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital (RTEH), Muzaffargarh. This multidisciplinary course was established to findings of an in-hospital survey.

The PGME, Emergency Medicine, and Surgery departments organized the three-day program. They worked with the US experts to establish a Collaborative Advanced Trauma Course program. The aim of the program is to train multidisciplinary emergency and trauma teams at RTEH. The course was set to the findings of an in-hospital survey of patients seeking emergency care at RTEH.

Emergency Medicine Residents, Medical Officers, Residents from Urology, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Anesthesia, and Emergency Resuscitation Nurses attended the three-day program. The objective of this course was to build trauma care knowledge and practices through learning, hand-on procedure practices, simulation ultrasound training, and team-building activities.

The trainer’s team includes Senior Surgeons, Senior Emergency Medicine Physicians and Nurses from the USA, and Senior Emergency Medicine Physicians from the Indus Hospital Karachi. The course will help the emergency and trauma team at RTEH Hospital Muzaffargarh provide coordinated, wide-ranging, and sympathetic care to trauma patients.

Dr. Irfan Javed expressed his warmest thanks to the trainers at the closing ceremony. “These types of training courses will boost the capabilities of our residents. Thanks to our strategic location on the highway, our Emergency department with numerous kinds of emergencies daily.”

He added that a porter from RTEH recently met with a serious accident. Thanks to the quick emergency response, he was promptly treated with immediate medical attention and has thankfully survived. Dr. Javed distributed Shields, Certificates, and Badges to the distinguished guests in attendance.
