FoodFusion, YouTube channel of IoBM alumnus Asad Memon, is the first Pakistani food channel to reach 1 billion views 

Karachi, January 01, 2022 (PPI-OT):Asad Memon, an IoBM alumnus (BCS 2004, MBA 2008), established his YouTube channel FoodFusion on May 9, 2016, with his wife, Saima. FoodFusion has become the first Pakistani food channel on YouTube to cross 1 billion views. The channel has been attracting viewers from across the world because of the delectable recipes they share and the name has become synonymous with Pakistani women and men who love to cook. As a student at IoBM, Asad was the President of a student society, Club IT. He also represented IoBM at the national level to win two national prizes at Computer Science competitions at GIKI and FAST. Asad is making IoBM and Pakistan proud.

IoBM graduate nominated amongst the top 300 most influential women in Global Islamic Banking and Finance industry

Karachi, December 29, 2021 (PPI-OT):Amna Rafiq Mughal, IoBM graduate (2016) has been nominated amongst the top 300 most influential women in Global Islamic Banking and Finance industry. She is the recipient of the WOMANi award for her contributions to Islamic finance in the capacity of products development and management. Amna had previously been associated with Siemens and SAP – Pakistan in the role of marketing and channel management.

Currently, she is serving as Manager – Islamic Banking Liability Products, New Initiatives and Fee Income at Bank Alfalah Limited. She is also involved in the promotion of women’s financial services and banking on equality in Pakistan and wishes to work diligently to increase their participation in the Islamic Finance Industry.

IoBM-SSKIC graduates its first Startup Cohort 

Karachi, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Shahjehan S Karim Incubation Center (SSK-IC) at the Institute of Business Management, Karachi held the Dr. Ahmer S. Karim (ASK) Cohort-1 Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday. The Chief Guest was Mr. Nadeem Hussain, Chairman, Pakistan Fintech Network and Executive Chairman, Planet N Group of Companies. Four start-ups were awarded graduation that were incubated at the SSK-IC, named in honour of IoBM’s Late Founder President. The ASK Grant Challenge provided business expertise and financial support to the startups. The graduating startups were: Asmeron, Boltay Huroof, Bridge Care, Creative 3D, Nutroforge products and TactonBiotic.

Mr. Nadeem Hussain said that entrepreneurship is about passion and not numbers. One needs to be a serial entrepreneur and be persistent to invest in various businesses. He said that Pakistan’s startup ecosystem is attracting investment while the academia and the government are interested in collaborating with the startups.

He added that the pandemic enhanced Pakistan’s digitization journey and the e-commerce market. He advised aspiring entrepreneurs to bring a change to the customer journey, monetize their businesses, and should achieve scalability. He added that entrepreneurs must know about their unit economics and that one co-founder of a startup should be an expert in technology and e-commerce.

President IoBM, Mr. Talib Karim appreciated the efforts of the mentors and startups who worked together to achieve a mutual goal. He said that IoBM believes in creating job creators and the SSK-IC is working to make this happen. Mr. Mehboob S. Karim, Chief Technical Advisor, IoBM, shared the strategy pillars of SSK-IC including infrastructure, capacity building and mentoring, financial viability, tech-enabled ESG innovations, industry and academia linkages, and post-incubation support.

During his Welcome Address, Dr. Imran Batada, IoBM’s Chief Technology Officer and Director Center for Information Technology said that startups need to take into consideration four aspects for success. They are the timing of the launch, execution of the plan, idea, and business model. Ms. Momina Butt, CEO, Bridge Care, one of the graduating startups, during her valedictory address appreciated the vision and guidance the startups received from the mentors. She was thankful for the ASK Grant Challenge as it motivated the startups to believe in their ideas and turn them into a reality.

IoBM wins Badminton (Boys) Championship

Karachi, December 23, 2021 (PPI-OT):IoBM successfully defended its title and won the HEC Intervarsity Zone “G” Badminton (Boys) Championship 2021-22 on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. In the semi-finals, IoBM defeated Hamdard University (3-0). IoBM and IBA played the finals that IoBM won comprehensively (3-0) to win the Championship. The matches were played at the multi-purpose sports area on the IoBM campus. It was streamed live on social media. IoBM’s President, Mr. Talib S. Karim, and Executive Director, Ms. Sabina Mohsin distributed awards among the players during the closing ceremony.

IoBM Alumni Raises $4.5 million for their startup 

Karachi, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):IoBM alumni Mina Salman (MBA 2005), Salman Sattar (MBA 2005), Abdul Muqeet (BBA 2016 – MBA 2017), Mushkbar Arshad (BBA 2016 – MBA 2017), are founding members of Bagallery, Pakistan’s largest beauty and fashion startup. It has raised its Series A investment of USD 4.5 million to pursue expansion in the near future. IoBM holds 24th Convocation; 1,249 degrees conferred 

Karachi, December 13, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) held its 24th Convocation on Saturday, December 11, 2021. As many as 1,249 graduates were awarded degrees in business management and allied disciplines. Gold medals were awarded to 16 students while 37 graduates received Merit Certificates. Leading the Convocation Planning Committee (CPC) was Ms. Sabina Mohsin, Executive Director, IoBM and Convener CPC. Under her inspiring leadership, CPC planned, organized, and executed all tasks to ensure smooth completion of the 24th Convocation.

Governor Sindh Mr. Imran Ismail was the Chief Guest while Mr. Muhammad Azfar Ahsan, Minister of State and Chairman Board of Investment (BoI) Pakistan was the Guest of Honour. The Keynote Speaker was Mr. Amir Paracha, Chairman and CEO, Unilever Pakistan. Present on the occasion were IoBM’s Chancellor, Mr. Bashir Jan Mohammad; Members of the Board of Governors; President, Mr. Talib S. Karim; Executive Director, Ms. Sabina Mohsin; Rector, Dr. Tariq Rahim Soomro; Deans, Heads of Academic Departments, and members of the Convocation Committee.

During his speech, Governor Sindh Mr. Imran Ismail said that Pakistan faces significant challenges in the area of providing purposeful, superior quality education for the youth of this country. He said that efforts are been made to restructure education under the national education policy framework. He was confident that the IoBM graduates will use their learning acquired to face all of life’s challenges and enable them to give their best at every step of the way.

While addressing the Convocation, Mr. Muhammad Azfar Ahsan advised students to pursue all activities with honesty, loyalty, and a sound sense of judgment. He asked the graduates to explore the world around them and become a helping hand for those who are facing tough times. He added that the times ahead will be challenging because of how the pandemic has altered our lives. He was confident that the graduates’ insights acquired during classroom lectures and experience gained while pursuing jobs or completing internships will guide them towards success.

During his Keynote Address, Mr. Amir Paracha said that behind success there are failures, success, and vulnerabilities. He said that your dream can evolve and change and that it is often important to listen to intuition. He advised students to continue dreaming, to be curious, to keep learning, and to remain humble. Mr. Paracha’s life story was indeed inspiring for the graduates that highlighted his gradual rise over the years in the corporate sector.

President IoBM, Mr. Talib S. Karim during his speech said he shared that IoBM is continuing its focus on research and development as faculty members are effectively pursuing their research objectives. He added that IoBM’s academic collaboration with universities abroad was also strengthened in 2021. IoBM is connected with 68 universities in Europe, Asia, and the US. He further added that IoBM management envisions transforming the Institute into a tech-driven campus within the next two years.

During his Welcome Address, Mr. Bashir Janmohammad said that graduates should be grateful to their parents for their selfless devotion. He paid tribute to IoBM’s Late Founder President, Mr. Shahjehan S. Karim for his devotion to providing quality education. He advised graduates to dream big and have a vision in life. He advised the graduates to work hard, be honest, and create jobs by establishing startups.

The Valedictorian, Ishma Ghazanfar (BBA Honors/Gold Medalist), during her speech, recalled her journey at IoBM, especially the classes taken from home during the pandemic. She advised students that whatever they wish to do in life, they should do it well. Because in doing so, they will find excellence, and in pursuing excellence, they will find their desired outcome. She said that with hard work, perseverance, and faith in God Almighty, things that may seem impossible will become possible. Abdul Moizz (BS- Social Entrepreneurship and Social Leadership) was the Students Commencement Speaker.

He shared that IoBM provided students with countless opportunities to build connections. Despite the COVID-19 Pandemic, our Student Exchange Program continued through which so many of us have had the privilege of studying in top-ranked universities all around the globe. He was confident that the Class of 2021 is not only graduating with a sense of pride, but with a sense of responsibility; the responsibility of working against the social challenges that lie ahead of them.

Gold medals were awarded to 16 students while 37 graduates received Merit Certificates. Among the graduating class were BBA-Honors (366), BS (254), MBA (562), MS/MPhil (39), and PhD (9) candidates. IoBM’s Convocation Planning Committee working under the leadership of Ms. Sabina Mohsin planned, organized, and executed all tasks with dedication.
