The character assassination campaign against Dr. Athar Mehboob is actually a campaign against the development of Bahawalpur. Dr. Athar Mehboob, Tamgha Imtiaz has already served for seven and a half years as Vice Chancellor of two Government Universities of Punjab Government. (1) Founding Vice-Chancellor (2019-2015) of Khawaja Farid University of Engineering and Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan where he completed a development project of around PKR 4.0 billion and took the university from zero to 9000 students in four years.

According to the Times Higher Education Ranking, the university improved its ranking from 1207th to 800th in the world. It has reached the seventh position in Pakistan and the first position in South Punjab. Apart from this, production and availability of new cotton seeds in the market, intercropping technology project for mixed cultivation of corn and soybeans, conversion of millions of acres of land in Cholistan to agro-economic zone through artificial rain, increase of 3 million dollars per year in Pakistan’s economy. can do Inter-University Consortium for Climate Change and Sustainable Solutions and 2. The 5 MW solar power project is also commendable.
The university now covers 100% of its operating expenses from its own revenue. Despite being such a dynamic and visionary academic and administrative leader and a high achiever, Dr. Athar Mehboob has been continuously targeted and subjected to incriminating inquiries and smear campaigns conducted by those in the past six years. Gaya who are unable to cope with performance and real world challenges.
The most recent such case is the alleged CMIT inquiry report which is completely one-sided and a complete deception of the truth and facts. Investigating the issue of such a one-sided report is itself tantamount to criminal malpractice, which is being used for defamation and defamation campaign against Dr. Athar Mehboob on electronic and social media. It should be condemned in every forum and teachers, students and student’s civil society and educational circles should unite against this campaign. These elements are enemies not only of Dr. Athar Mehboob but also of the development of Islamia University and in fact of Bahawalpur.
