Punjab University Library Hosts Book Club Talks on Orientalism and Persian Poetry

Lahore: Punjab University Library’s Book Club recently held discussions on two significant books, one in English and the other in Urdu, bringing together academics and students for an enriching literary session. The event featured introductory talks on “Sohrab Sepehri: Aenoon ki Jheel,” a selection of Persian poetry translated by Moeen Nizami, and “Buying Buddha, Selling Rumi: Orientalism and the Mystical Marketplace” by Sophia Rose Arjana.

According to University of the Punjab, the session included presentations by Professor Marghoob Hussain Tahir from Osaka University and Dr. Rasheed Arshad of the university’s Department of Philosophy. Both speakers discussed the themes and cultural significance of the books. Chief Librarian Dr. Muhammad Haroon Usmani also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of such discussions in fostering a deeper understanding of literature and culture among students.

The event was well-attended by faculty members and students, highlighting the university community’s keen interest in literary exploration. Dr. Usmani, in his concluding remarks, expressed gratitude towards the attendees and speakers for their active participation and insightful contributions to the discussion.
