Punjab has become a police state, Hamza Shahbaz is not running province but IG Punjab is running it: Ch Parvez Elahi

Lahore, June 12, 2022 (PPI-OT):A joint meeting of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party was held in the Punjab Assembly today under the chairmanship of Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and former Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar.

The meeting condemned the cases and arrests against the opposition members. In the meeting, it was decided to bring a resolution in the Punjab Assembly condemning the blasphemy of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) by the Indian government. Hafiz Ammar Yasir will present a resolution in the House on behalf of the opposition. A full-scale protest was decided in the budget session of the Punjab Assembly.

Ch Parvez Elahi directed the members of the Assembly to ensure attendance in the session tomorrow to protest against the anti-people budget. Opposition MPAs should move for maximum cut motions against the budget so that a tough time can be given to the imported government.

Ch Parvez Elahi further said that the government is committing the worst acts of revenge, Punjab has become a police state, it seems that the province is being run by IG Punjab Police and not by Hamza Shahbaz. He further said that our women MPAs also resisted the tactics of the police like other male MPAs. In hindsight, it seems that IG has retained Hamza Shahbaz as his PA. He said that the matter of IG Punjab Police would come up in the privilege committee and he would be punished. IG Punjab would have to answer for the retaliatory actions.

The meeting also approved important decisions regarding the by-election strategy. The members informed in the meeting that the process of rigging has also started in the by-election constituencies. Members expressed concern over the Chief Secretary’s visits to the districts of the by-election constituencies. Mohammad Basharat Raja said that we are not afraid of reprisals and lawsuits, we will fight the government tactics in the by-elections.

Sardar Shahabuddin said that the government was targeting certain polling stations in the by-election constituencies for rigging. It was decided in the meeting that a special cell of the party would be set up for by-elections. All members should send complaints of rigging to the special cell. The meeting also considered the proposal to impose duties on all members of the Assembly in the by-election constituencies. It was also decided to give constituencies to women MPs for by-election campaign.
