President Zardari Strengthens Ties with China During Shanghai Visit

Shanghai: President Asif Ali Zardari met with Chen Jining, the Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Shanghai, to discuss the enduring relationship between Pakistan and China, emphasizing the significance of their diplomatic ties.

President Zardari, accompanied by First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was welcomed by Mr. Chen. The meeting underscored the longstanding friendship between the two nations, with Chen recalling Zardari’s previous meeting with President Xi Jinping and the recent visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to China.

Mr. Chen described Pakistan as an “all-weather friend and iron brother” to China. He highlighted the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, expressing optimism about future collaborations.

President Zardari reiterated the strength of Pakistan-China relations, dismissing any potential threats from external forces. He emphasized the importance of nurturing the bilateral friendship for future generations.

The conversation also touched upon Shanghai’s evolution from a manufacturing hub to a service industry center, with investments in healthcare and education. Mr. Chen noted that Shanghai boasts the highest number of coffee shops in any single city worldwide.

The meeting explored opportunities for industrial cooperation, focusing on Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and the Gwadar Free Zone. Discussions centered on technological advancements, particularly in IT, artificial intelligence, and innovation.

A dinner hosted by Mr. Chen honored President Zardari and his delegation. The meeting included notable attendees such as Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, Sindh Ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon and Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and ambassadors from both nations. Senior Chinese officials, including members of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Shanghai Electric’s President, also participated.
