Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari has mandated the disbursement of compensation to the tune of Rs 4.7 million each for 1,500 individuals affected by the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. This directive was issued during meetings with the Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Engineer Amir Muqam, and Energy Minister Dr. Musaddik Malik at President House on Monday.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the president emphasized the urgent need for these payments to ensure that the affected families are adequately compensated. He also highlighted other significant directives, including the establishment of a medical college and hospital in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to enhance healthcare services in the region. Further, President Zardari has ordered an expansion of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) to include healthcare benefits for the residents of GB.
These measures come in response to recent discussions with the GB governor and members of the GB Council, who outlined the pressing issues faced by the people in the area. The president’s actions aim to address these concerns comprehensively.
