PRCS and FAST University Collaborate on Blood Donation Drive in Islamabad

Islamabad, In a significant humanitarian effort, the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) hosted a blood donation camp at FAST National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences. This event, part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Week themed “Keeping Humanity Alive,” saw active participation from students, faculty, and community members, collectively contributing to a vital cause.

According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the drive was conducted on the lawns of FAST University, where 137 individuals donated blood, potentially benefiting around 411 people through the provision of red blood cells, plasma, and FFPs. The opening ceremony featured speeches from notable figures, including PRCS Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, who emphasized the critical role of blood donation in saving lives and urged continued support from the youth.

Rector of FAST University, Prof. Dr. Aftab Ahmad Maroof, praised the longstanding collaboration with PRCS and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to supporting health and well-being initiatives. Nicolas Lambert, Head of the ICRC Delegation in Pakistan, and Mr. Ergest LIMKA, Head of the Turkish Delegation in Pakistan, also acknowledged the joint effort’s impact on community health and the promotion of voluntary blood donation.

The event highlighted the importance of regular blood donations and featured discussions on advancements in blood separation technology, emphasizing the PRCS’s commitment to providing safe, high-quality blood through its Regional Blood Donor Centre. This centre adheres to the highest standards of blood safety, focusing on altruistic and voluntary donations.
