Karachi, A recent incident involving Arsalan Pervez, a member of the Sindh Assembly from MQM-Pakistan, has escalated tensions in Karachi. Pervez reportedly threatened Jalal Bhai, the president of PCSIR Society in Scheme 33, demanding his resignation and warning of severe consequences if he failed to comply. This confrontation is part of a broader dispute over the supply of drinking water in the area.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, the altercation occurred after Pervez and his supporters, dissatisfied with a proposal to resolve local water issues with PPP’s assistance, visited Jalal Bhai’s residence. CCTV footage captured Pervez, accompanied by a gunman and over a dozen youths, issuing threats. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from both political figures and local residents, with calls for decisive action against the MQM member.
PPP Karachi Division Deputy Secretary Information Convenor Eastern District Asif Khan and other party leaders have condemned Pervez’s actions, accusing him of attempting to stir unrest and asserting that such intimidation tactics will not be tolerated in Karachi. The community’s response has been equally strong, with residents expressing their dismay at the assembly member’s behavior and demanding that authorities address the situation promptly.
The conflict highlights ongoing challenges in Karachi’s political landscape, where access to basic services like water continues to be a contentious issue, intertwined with broader political dynamics and rivalries.
