Physiology students showcase academic excellence at multiple international research conferences

Lahore, May 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):“Success is no accident”. It is the hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do. The faculty of the University College of Medicine and Dentistry (UCMD) is taking its students at many international platforms to represent UCMD.

Prof. Dr. Samina Malik (HoD Physiology, UCMD), the Iron Lady, is the embodiment of this quote along with her sheer character, intelligence, strength and style she’s innovated, and orchestrated such thought provoking and intellect stimulating events that have served as a learning experience for all her students. She’s been a guide to the ladder of success for all of her students. Recently, under her supervision four of her mentees partook in multiple international research conferences and won accolades for UCMD.

The first participation was ensured in Shalimar Medical and Dental College’s 6th International Conference upon Breaking Barriers held on February 3-5, 2022. Interdisciplinary research actions and global synergistic approaches were discussed where many physiologists, post graduate and undergraduate students contributed through insightful research presentations.

UCMD’s undergraduate students named Mr. M. Arslan (1st Year, MBBS), Ms. Afreen Nabi (2nd Year, MBBS) and Ms. Marwa Basharat (2nd Year, MBBS) and Ms. Neha Khawer (2nd Year, BDS) participated and emphasized upon inculcating different physiological principles in core learning concepts. Ms. Khawer secured 2nd position in undergraduate category and won a cash prize worth fifteen thousand rupees.

All of these eminent students participated in another conference conducted by the physiology department, University of Karachi entitled as 3rd Probe Conference 2022, themed as Physiology; Pandemics, Practices and Perspectives from February 21 to 23, 2022. It was a biennial meetup of eminent physiologists and scientists across the world. Physiology Resonates and Ozonizes Biological Existence abbreviated as PROBE offered a platform to discuss trans disciplinary paths of knowledge to achieve objectives and solutions to solve health oriented societal problems, whereas the medical education category Ms. Khawer was awarded 1st prize as the best oral presenter.

The student research society, Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar conducted a decennial gala on February 23, 2022, titled “Sowing the Seeds of Curiosity”. Three students from UCMD namely: Mr. Adeel Sarwar, Ms. Khawer and Mr. Arslan successfully presented posters during the event.
