PCB Launches Inaugural Women’s University Cricket Tournament

Lahore, The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to inaugurate the first PCB Women’s University Cricket Tournament 2024 starting tomorrow, featuring matches across Lahore, Rawalpindi, Karachi, and Multan. This landmark event will host 14 university teams in a T20 format aimed at bolstering young talent in women’s cricket.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the tournament will see teams divided into four zones, with Karachi and Lahore zones comprising four teams each, and Multan and Rawalpindi zones fielding three teams each. The league stage will culminate in zone finals scheduled for June 3, with the table-toppers from each zone competing for the title.

The tournament is open to students aged 25 or below, providing a platform for 210 players across the participating universities to demonstrate their skills. Notable universities such as the University of Karachi, Lahore College Women’s University, and Bahauddin Zakariya University, among others, will be part of this initiative.

Tania Mallick, Head of Women’s Cricket at PCB, expressed enthusiasm about the tournament’s potential to expand the talent pool in women’s cricket in Pakistan. She highlighted the opportunity it presents for students to not only showcase their abilities but also to consider professional careers in cricket.
