Karachi, The Vice Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), Khalil Ahmad Thand, has expressed grave concerns over the recent targeted killing of Sunni Ulema Council of Pakistan’s Deputy Secretary General, Allama Masoodur Rahman Usmani, stating that such acts are attempts to create chaos in Pakistan. Thand emphasized the dire need for national unity in the face of rising internal and external tensions.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Thand pointed out that Pakistan is currently experiencing systematic efforts to incite religious, linguistic, and regional conflicts, in addition to being controlled economically. He mentioned previous suicide attacks on leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and Siraj-ul-Haq of Jamaat-e-Islami, suggesting a pattern of violence aimed at destabilizing the country. Thand criticized certain political and social forces for exploiting these situations for personal gain, exacerbating the chaos.
Thand stressed that Pakistan is in urgent need of national unity, yet there is a lack of political figures capable of uniting the divided political forces. He argued that while elections are necessary to fulfill constitutional requirements and maintain administrative order, controlling the prevailing chaos is even more crucial. Thand expressed concern that the focus of major political parties on elections is a form of selfishness, neglecting the constitutional mandate to maintain national security, unity, and the provision of basic rights to citizens.
The PDP Vice Chairman also called on the younger generation to play an active role in safeguarding the country and guiding the direction of political parties. He noted that merely blaming the establishment will not resolve the situation. Thand’s statements underscore the complex challenges facing Pakistan, highlighting the need for a united approach to address political, economic, and social issues.
