Perth, Mohammad Hafeez, the director of Pakistan Men’s Team, has expressed a strong sense of readiness and confidence for the upcoming Test series against Australia. The first Test match is set to begin at Perth Stadium on December 14.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Hafeez, addressing the media after Pakistan’s first practice session in Perth, conveyed his initial surprise and disappointment at the surface offered for the four-day match in Canberra, describing it as slow. Despite this, he affirmed the team’s preparedness for the upcoming series.
Hafeez praised the current Pakistan Test team, highlighting its stability and past successes. He emphasized the team’s excitement and eagerness to face challenges, with a particular focus on performing well in Australia being a top priority. Despite the unfortunate unavailability of Abrar Ahmed due to injury, Hafeez remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, noting that the rest of the squad is fit and eager to showcase their abilities against Australia.
The absence of Abrar Ahmed from the Perth Test, as he undergoes rehabilitation, is a setback for the team. However, he is expected to recover in time for the second Test of the series.
Hafeez also commented on the return of Nathan Lyon to Australia’s Test team. Acknowledging Lyon as a formidable bowler, he expressed confidence in the Pakistani batters’ ability to perform against off-spin, citing their past success in scoring runs against Lyon in previous series. Hafeez hopes for a continuation of this trend in the upcoming series.
The series represents a significant challenge for Pakistan, facing a strong Australian side in their home conditions. However, the confidence expressed by Hafeez and the readiness of the team suggest a competitive and potentially exciting series ahead.
