NUMS Department of Public Health Honors 75th Anniversary of WHO with Comprehensive Health Fair

Islamabad, The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS) Public Health Department recently held an extensive Health Fair, reflecting upon the impactful journey of the World Health Organization (WHO) as it marked its 75th anniversary. The theme for the event was “From Health as a Fundamental Right to Vitality for Sustainability – A Journey of 75 Years,” emphasizing WHO’s monumental achievements and strides in global health since its establishment in 1948.

According to a news release by National University of Medical Sciences, the event took place on 10 October 2023 at the NUMS PWD Campus, offering attendees a blend of information, reflection, and celebration. Moderated by Noor ul Ain and Iffa Zahid from BSPH-Batch I, the event began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Maaz Abdullah from BSPH Batch II, succeeded by the national anthem. A vivid portrayal of WHO’s transformative journey from its inception to the present day was presented by Fizza Javed from BSPH-Batch I. Highlights from the Department of Public Health’s extensive efforts in seminars, events, and campaigns were then showcased through a video presentation. Moreover, a role-play emphasizing the urgent issues of environmental sustainability and climate change was artfully executed by students from BSPH batches.

The Health Fair’s Chief Guest was Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, the esteemed Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Health Services Academy, Islamabad. His insightful address shed light on crucial health topics, bolstered by his vast expertise. The event also saw participation from several prominent figures including Prof. Dr. Uzma Hassan, the Head of the Public Health Department, and Major General Farrukh Saeed HI (M) (Retd), the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Academic at NUMS. Both expressed their gratitude to participants, organizers, and guests, with Major General Saeed presenting a souvenir to the Chief Guest in appreciation of his contributions.

Transitioning to the event’s second segment, attendees explored an exhibition where students from various academic disciplines showcased their efforts through stalls. These booths shed light on a range of public health-related topics. Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan had the honor of awarding the top three stalls based on their relevance, engagement, creativity, and design:

Concluding the event, expressions of gratitude and appreciation were shared by organizers and attendees alike. Notably, the Head of the Department recognized the Digital Technologies Directorate, Administration Directorate, Public Affairs Directorate, and Department of Student Affairs for ensuring a conducive environment, contributing to the event’s success.
