Lahore, The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), in collaboration with the IDEA Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the non-profit organization Umeed, successfully hosted a three-day Global Entrepreneurship Conference from March 4 to 6, 2024. The conference aimed to foster innovation and collaboration among entrepreneurs, academics, students, investors, and influential figures from around the globe.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the event was marked by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Provost of LUMS, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn and share entrepreneurial experiences and ideas. The conference featured opening remarks from notable personalities such as Ms. Dina H. Sherif, Executive Director at the Legatum Center for Development and Entrepreneurship, MIT, and other executives from MIT Sloan School of Management.
The sessions provided a platform for speakers from diverse backgrounds, including Mr. Hassan Ajwad Abbas of Ericsson and Umeed, Mr. Roberto M. Fernandez from MIT Sloan School of Management, and representatives from Delta Air Lines, Bruce Power, Rock Yard Ventures, Aiforia, and the LEGO Group. These sessions covered a range of topics from the concept of IDEA-Lab Pakistan and the art of idea generation to global strategy considerations and the renewable energy revolution.
Highlights of the conference included commendations for the MIT Executive MBA team’s role in organizing the event, discussions on the significance of entrepreneurship and innovation for sustainable and equitable growth, and the potential of IDEA-Lab Pakistan to foster Deep Tech Innovation within the country. Additionally, the event underscored the importance of collaborative learning and capacity building through the Tabeer Project, a partnership between LCE and the US Department of State, which aims to unite Business Incubation Centres across universities in Punjab for training and networking.
The conference concluded with reflections on the success of this collaboration and the anticipation of future partnerships to enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Pakistan and beyond.
