Karachi, Spenta Kandawalla, a trustee of the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust (LRBT), has contributed Rs. 65 million towards the expansion of the LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine and an additional Rs. 20 million to establish a scholarship endowment fund. This funding will facilitate the construction of a new floor in the OPD building to house the school and provide scholarships to assist needy and talented students.
According to Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust, the newly expanded facility will be named the LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine Farrokh Captain Center, in honor of Mrs. Kandawalla’s late brother, who was also a long-time trustee and benefactor of the organization. The donation for the endowment, named the Farrokh Captain Memorial Fund, aims to support the educational aspirations of students specializing in various ophthalmic disciplines.
The LRBT School of Ophthalmic Paramedicine, operational since 2011 and located at the LRBT Tertiary Teaching Hospital in Korangi, Karachi, offers several certification courses and has recently introduced a BS in Optometry. The school is integral to LRBT’s mission to prevent curable blindness in Pakistan, a cause for which Mrs. Kandawalla’s continuous support has been invaluable.
