Larkana, A woman from the Hamla locality in Larkana staged a protest in front of the press club, voicing her grievances over not receiving her stipend under the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP). Hasina Khatun, who is facing significant health challenges, expressed her dire financial situation and the impact of the discontinuation of her stipend.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Khatun, who is afflicted with tuberculosis and diabetes, informed reporters about her impoverished state. She revealed that although she used to receive financial aid through the BISP, the stipend payments have ceased, leaving her in a state of extreme hardship.
Hasina Khatun’s protest underscores the struggles faced by individuals who rely on governmental support programs like BISP for their subsistence. Her situation is particularly critical as she is currently pregnant, adding to her health and financial burdens. She has appealed to the concerned authorities to reinstate her BISP stipend, which she depends on for her livelihood.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by vulnerable segments of society, especially when there are disruptions or delays in social welfare programs. It also raises questions about the efficacy and reliability of such support systems in addressing the needs of the poorest and most disadvantaged.
