Lahore, The Department of Mathematics at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has earned the distinction of Emerging Regional Centre of Excellence (ERCE) by the Commission of Developing Countries of the European Mathematical Sciences. This accolade is in recognition of its substantial efforts in advancing mathematical education and research within the region. Building on this achievement, LUMS is hosting the esteemed CIMPA Research School on Algebra and Algebraic Geometry for Applications from February 26 to March 8, 2024. This initiative aims to bolster mathematical research and application in developing countries, highlighting LUMS’s commitment to fostering global mathematical excellence.
According to Lahore University of Management Sciences, the CIMPA School features an array of esteemed mathematicians from across the globe, including Dr. Thomas Kahle, Ms. Sara Saeedi Madani, Dr. Carlos Amendola, Dr. Aida Maraj, Dr. Beatriz Pascual Escudero, Dr. Miruna-Stefana Sorea, along with local experts Dr. Imran Anwar and Dr. Shaheen Nazir from LUMS. The event has attracted participants from diverse nations like Iran, Vietnam, Canada, Germany, and Spain, with a significant number also attending the sessions online. The School’s collaborative effort with IBA Karachi further extends its reach, allowing participants from Karachi and Sindh to engage with the lectures at IBA, alongside those at LUMS.
