kistan Reaffirms Commitment to Environmental Restoration on World Environment Day

Islamabad, On the occasion of World Environment Day, Pakistan has reiterated its dedication to addressing critical environmental challenges, with a particular focus on combating the effects of climate change such as land depletion, desertification, and drought. The nation, which has been significantly impacted by environmental disasters, is taking proactive steps to enhance its ecological resilience.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted the progress made under initiatives like the Green Pakistan Program, which has significantly contributed to forest and ecosystem restoration across the country. The President noted that such efforts are crucial in a nation that has frequently faced severe environmental incidents including floods, extreme heatwaves, and forest fires.

The theme for this year’s World Environment Day—focusing on land restoration and the prevention of desertification and drought—underscores the global urgency of these issues. President Zardari expressed that the observance of this day is a reminder of the collective responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.

The government’s approach includes promoting sustainable agricultural practices through the National Adaptation Plan and Climate Smart Agriculture, aiming to halt the decline in land productivity and enhance land quality. Moreover, efforts to restore degraded forests and agricultural lands are being intensified, although President Zardari acknowledged that much work remains.

Community involvement in afforestation and the promotion of sustainable land and water management practices are seen as vital to these endeavors. The President called for greater mobilization of federal and provincial departments, along with local communities, to plant more trees, manage water resources more effectively, and increase soil water retention to combat aridity and improve land productivity.

On World Environment Day, President Zardari’s message was clear: Pakistan must continue to address the challenges posed by climate change with urgency and cooperation to ensure a sustainable future for all citizens.
