Karachi: The 21-day “Awami Theater Festival,” organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, is experiencing notable success, with audiences flocking to see the performances, even standing due to high attendance. On weekends, the festival features two shows each day.
According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, on the festival’s 16th day, the Memoni-language drama “Dharay Ja Dhadaka,” directed by Aftab Kamdar, and the Urdu play “Biwi, Batwa Aur Batwara,” directed by Rauf Lala, were performed. “Dharay Ja Dhadaka” explores family dynamics, focusing on the relationship between a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law and the consequences of their actions. The cast, including Salomi and Rauf Lala, delivered noteworthy performances, emphasizing the importance of respect and harmony within families. “Biwi, Batwa Aur Batwara,” featuring a stellar cast led by Rauf Lala, depicted the turmoil within a middle-class family following a minor dispute, ultimately advocating for reconciliation and family unity.
On the 17th day, Ali Roshan’s Sindhi drama “Na Farman” and Nazar Hussain’s “Misaq-e-Mohabbat” were showcased. “Na Farman” tells the tragic story of a son manipulated into selling his father’s property, while “Misaq-e-Mohabbat” offers a comedic take on familial sacrifice and forgotten bonds. Both plays were well-received, with audiences appreciating the portrayal of family values and relationships. The festival continues to draw theater enthusiasts, with performances praised for their depth and execution.
