Karachi Faces Gas Crisis and Price Hikes, Pasban Democratic Party Calls for Government Action

Karachi, Amidst ongoing gas outages and surging utility bills, the Pasban Democratic Party has voiced strong criticism of the caretaker government’s handling of the situation, urging immediate attention to the hardships faced by the citizens. Tariq Chandiwala, the chief organizer of the party in Karachi, highlighted the dire need for the government to halt further increases in gas prices and consider the well-being of the population.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Chandiwala emphasized that the government’s current focus should shift towards resolving the public’s issues, particularly in light of the gas shortages and the inflationary impact on essential commodities like electricity, petroleum, CNG, and LPG. He questioned the rationale behind increasing prices when gas availability is already a significant problem, pointing out the dire consequences of inflation on families, including instances where individuals have resorted to extreme measures due to financial despair.

The statement from the party also criticized the successive hikes in utility prices as “anti-people,” stressing that the population is reaching its tolerance limit amidst worsening poverty. The Pasban Democratic Party called on the government to show compassion towards the citizens’ plight, suggesting measures such as reducing ministers’ salaries, eliminating their perks, and taxing the affluent to alleviate the financial burden on the general populace.

Furthermore, Chandiwala criticized the government’s compliance with the International Monetary Fund’s conditions, which he believes has exacerbated the citizens’ struggles with issues like unemployment, healthcare, and education. He accused the current political system of cyclically entrapping the people in a loop of promises and failures, suggesting that the time has come to consider an alternative to the existing democratic framework.

The Pasban Democratic Party’s statement reflects growing frustration among Karachi’s residents over the economic challenges and governance issues, calling for a fundamental reassessment of the government’s priorities and strategies to address the needs of its people.
