KARACHI: Voter registration in Karachi Central stands at 54% of its estimated 2025 population, aligning with the national average, according to district-wise electoral roll statistics released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The data, based on population estimates from the 2023 Digital Census, highlights that Karachi Central, a significant urban district, maintains a balanced registration rate despite the challenges posed by population mobility.
According to Free and Fair Election Network, the district's registration rate is calculated by dividing the number of registered voters, which totals 2.2 million, by the estimated 2025 population of 4,158,112. This populace includes 1.2 million males, comprising 53.4% of registered voters, and 1.0 million females, making up 46.6%. The district ranks 15th out of 136 districts nationwide by population size and holds 56th position nationally in voter registration rate, while placing 5th among 30 districts within Sindh.
Karachi Central's status as a major urban center often results in in-migrants being enumerated during the census but retaining voter registration in their home districts. However, this potential skew is counterbalanced by a stable local electorate, ensuring the district's registration rate remains at par with the national figure. Despite this equilibrium, a gender gap persists, with females making up 46.6% of the registered voters, highlighting a 6.9% disparity. Efforts to close this gap through targeted outreach by the ECP are suggested as a priority ahead of forthcoming general elections.
