Jamaat-e-Islami Leader Urges Chief Justice Action, Announces Protest in Lahore

Lahore, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeemur Rahman, has called on Pakistan’s Chief Justice to take suo moto action regarding the establishment of what he refers to as the “Form 47 government,” suggesting irregularities in the formation process over the traditional Form 45. He made this appeal in a context of increasing public demand for adherence to constitutional duties across the nation.

According to Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, during a comprehensive address in Lahore, Rahman criticized the government’s disregard for constitutional processes, claiming that the rulers have deviated from public opinion and warning against potential unrest akin to that in Azad Kashmir. He emphasized the need for all state institutions, including the military and bureaucracy, to uphold their constitutional responsibilities to prevent such scenarios.

Rahman also announced plans for a significant protest march on May 16 against the Punjab Chief Minister’s residence to compel the government to purchase wheat directly from farmers, a promise he claims the government has reneged on. This protest underscores his broader critique of what he describes as a ‘unity of robbers’ imposed on the country, severely affecting governance and public service delivery.

Furthermore, Rahman highlighted ongoing issues in Karachi, including the disputed census results and local government failures, which he argues have been exacerbated by political corruption. He detailed the adverse effects on education and public safety in Karachi, asserting that the city’s development projects like the K4 water project and the S3 sewage project have been neglected, harming the residents’ quality of life.

This speech also touched on the broader issues of political patronage enabling crime in Sindh and the mismanagement of public utilities that affect daily life in Karachi, promising that Jamaat-e-Islami will intensify its efforts to advocate for Karachi’s rights on a national level.
