Islamabad Seminar Explores Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Conduct Towards Non-Muslims

Islamabad, The International Islamic University (IIU) recently hosted a national seminar focusing on “The conduct of Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) in dealing with Non-Muslims in a Muslim society.” Organized by the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) in collaboration with various partners, the seminar emphasized the importance of peace, respect, and peaceful coexistence as taught in the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

According to International Islamic University Islamabad, the seminar was held at the Faisal Masjid campus of IIU, in association with the National Rahmatul-Lil-Aalameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority and Jamia Muhammadiyah, Chiniot. The event featured discussions on how the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) serves as a guide for building a stable society without coercion in matters of religion.

Khurshid Ahmad Nadeem, Chairman of the Rahmatul-Lil-Aalameen Authority, highlighted the breadth of the Prophet’s message and the emphasis on establishing a diverse society based on mutual respect and honor. He stressed the need for a society where religious discrimination is absent, and peace is prioritized.

Special Secretary of Federal Education and Vocational Training, Mr. Mohiuddin Wani, in his presidential address, spoke about integrating governance, commerce, education, and other sectors with the teachings of the Prophet (PBUH). He advocated for using modern means to disseminate the Seerah and applying its lessons in both religious and practical life.

IIUI Rector Dr. Samina Malik emphasized the integration of religion and practical life, reflecting the Seerah in everyday society. She noted the role of higher education institutions in promoting the practical application of the Prophet’s life, particularly his kindness towards non-Muslims.

Brigadier Simon Simpson Sharaf, speaking at the seminar, discussed the similarities between Christianity and Islam and the historical and contemporary relevance of the Najran Treaty. Sahibzada Syed Qamarul Haq from Jamia Muhammadiyah Sharif Chiniot addressed misconceptions around terms like Dhimmi and Harbi and spoke about the rights of non-Muslims in an Islamic state.

Dr. Muhammad Ziaul Haq, Director General of the Islamic Research Institute, explained that the seminar aimed to highlight the implementation of the Prophet’s life in society. He mentioned the Seerah project initiated under the vision of IIUI President Dr. Hathal Homoud Alotaibi, which includes publications, training programs, conferences, and dialogues.

The seminar also featured the inauguration of the Seerah exhibition at the IRI’s Dr. Hamidullah Library by Mr. Mohiuddin Wani.
