India Sets New Test Cricket Records in Kanpur

Kanpur: India has set multiple records during the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur, including the fastest team hundred and fastest team double hundred in Test cricket history, reshaping the landscape of rapid scoring in the longest format of the game.

According to International Cricket Council, India’s explosive start was led by Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who propelled the team to 50 runs in just three overs. Sharma scored 19 runs off six balls, and Jaiswal added 30 from 13 deliveries, achieving the fastest team fifty in Test history. Despite Sharma’s early dismissal, Jaiswal, alongside Shubman Gill, continued the aggressive batting, reaching the hundred mark in just 10.1 overs, breaking the previous record of 12.2 overs set by India against the West Indies in 2023.

The batting frenzy didn’t stop there as India also broke the record for the fastest 200 runs in a Test match, previously held by Australia. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul contributed with quick scores of 47 and 68 respectively, leading India to reach the 200-run milestone in just 24.2 overs.

Moreover, Ravindra Jadeja added a personal milestone by becoming the second-fastest player to reach the double milestone of 3,000 runs and 300 wickets in Test cricket, an achievement only surpassed by England’s Ian Botham. Jadeja reached this landmark in his 74th Test match, joining an elite group of players and becoming the third Indian, after Kapil Dev and Ravichandran Ashwin, to accomplish this feat.

These records underscore a significant shift in India’s approach to Test cricket, emphasizing speed and aggressive batting, and set new benchmarks for future matches.
