Lahore, The much-anticipated ninth edition of the Habib Bank Limited Pakistan Super League (HBL PSL) is poised to kick off tomorrow with an explosive match between two-time champions Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The opening match, scheduled to start at 8 pm PKT, marks the beginning of a series of 34 matches to be hosted across Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi.
According to Pakistan Cricket Board, the HBL PSL 9 will feature its first opening ceremony at the PCB’s headquarters, Gaddafi Stadium. Slated to begin at 6:30 pm, the ceremony promises a spectacular lineup of performances by renowned artists including Arif Lohar, Natasha Baig, pop band Noori, and the singers of the HBL PSL 9 anthem song, Ali Zafar and Aima Baig, complemented by a dazzling fireworks display and a mesmerising laser show.
The tournament will travel through Lahore and Multan from February 17 to 27 before moving to Karachi and Rawalpindi. The Gaddafi Stadium will play host to nine matches, including five home matches for Lahore Qalandars. Multan Cricket Stadium is set to host all five Multan Sultans fixtures. The action will then shift to Pindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi for nine matches from March 2 to 10, with Islamabad United playing five matches. The grand finale will take place at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium on March 18.
Captains from the participating teams shared their thoughts and aspirations for HBL PSL 9, with Islamabad United’s Shadab Khan aiming for the trophy, Karachi Kings’ Shan Masood focusing on rebuilding the team, Lahore Qalandars’ Shaheen Shah Afridi excited for a hat-trick of titles, Multan Sultans’ Mohammad Rizwan proud of the league’s standard, Peshawar Zalmi’s Babar Azam aiming for championship glory, and Quetta Gladiators’ Rilee Rossouw honored to lead.
The teams have fortified their 20-member squads with both local and international talent, gearing up for intense cricket action.
