Hayley Matthews Named ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2024

Dubai, West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews has been honored as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April 2024 following her exceptional performances in white-ball cricket against Pakistan. This accolade marks her third time receiving the monthly award, placing her just behind Australia’s Ash Gardner in terms of frequency of wins.

According to International Cricket Council, Matthews’ performances were pivotal during both the T20 International (T20I) and One Day International (ODI) series against Pakistan, contributing significantly to the West Indies’ success. Over the course of the month, she showcased her skills with the bat and ball, scoring a total of 325 runs in the ODI series at an average of 162.5 and taking six wickets. In the T20Is, she added 126 runs at an average of 42 and claimed another six wickets.

Matthews’ outstanding individual performances included a commanding 140 not out in the first ODI and a match-winning 141 in the final ODI, complemented by her effective bowling spells across both formats. Her contributions earned her four Player of the Match awards—two each in the ODI and T20I series—as well as the Player of the Series title in ODIs.

The West Indies skipper expressed her delight at winning the award again, emphasizing the importance of her performances in contributing to team success and stating her excitement to carry the momentum into the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka as part of the ICC Women’s Championship.
