Forman Christian College Marks 160 Years of Foundation and Service

Lahore, Forman Christian College (FCCU) celebrated Founder’s Day 2024 on March 3, commemorating its 160th anniversary. The institution, which has played a pivotal role in the educational landscape of Pakistan, used this occasion to reflect on its substantial history of service and dedication to progressive values since its founding by Dr. Charles W. Forman in 1864.

According to Forman Christian College, Rector of Forman Christian College, the day is not only about honoring the past but also about recognizing the enduring ethos of service and sacrifice that has defined the institution. Service, a core element of FCCU’s identity, has been demonstrated over the years, including the conversion of campus facilities into a hospital during the 1947 partition to meet the needs of those injured, and the college’s response to natural disasters.

Dr. Addleton’s message highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive community, a vision rooted in the college’s history. This commitment is also reflected in the motto “By Love Serve One Another,” which has inspired the college community since its introduction by Dr. Forman in 1888 and is drawn from St. Paul’s Letter to the Galatians.

Today, Forman Christian College is lauded as one of Pakistan’s most esteemed higher education institutions, advocating for the importance of service, diversity, and openness to new ideas. These principles continue to be central to FCCU’s mission as it strives to educate leaders who are prepared to contribute economically, socially, and morally to the progress of Pakistan.

On Founder’s Day, Dr. Addleton expressed hope that the spirit and example set by Dr. Charles Forman would continue to inspire the FCCU community to live out the college’s founding principles of learning, leadership, and service.
