Buner: Jaswinder Singh, a 13-year-old student from District Buner, has become a symbol of resilience after devastating floods hit his community in the monsoon season of 2025. Singh, along with his classmates, faced a harrowing experience when their secondary school was submerged, forcing them to seek refuge on the upper floors until they were rescued.
According to Pak NGOs, the floods obliterated the main bazaar and significantly damaged the educational infrastructure, including the school attended by Singh. The Singh family, a minority community with deep-rooted ties to the region, has historically endured and overcome numerous challenges. The recent floods, however, posed a significant threat to their livelihood and education.
On the morning of the floods, Singh and his cousin narrowly escaped the rising waters, thanks to the quick actions of their teacher, who created an escape route. Despite the destruction, organizations like CESVI quickly responded with debris removal initiatives, prioritizing the restoration of educational facilities.
Jaswinder Singh reflects on the ordeal with a determination to continue his education, emphasizing the importance of his school as a place of learning and future aspirations. The support from CESVI has been crucial in rebuilding the school's infrastructure, ensuring that the children of Buner can resume their education and look forward to a brighter future.
