Five Players to Watch at ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier: Sultana Joty, Prendergast, Bryce, Chantham, and Oala Poised for Impact

KATHMANDU: As the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier kicks off in Nepal, cricket enthusiasts are keenly observing five standout players expected to excel in the tournament. With ten teams competing for the remaining four spots at this year’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales, the competition promises to be intense.

According to International Cricket Council, among the players to watch is Bangladesh’s captain Nigar Sultana Joty, who is ranked within the top 20 of the ICC Women’s T20 Batting Rankings. Sultana Joty has displayed her skill with impressive performances, including a notable innings of 77 against Sri Lanka and an unbeaten 75 against Namibia in recent matches.

Ireland’s Orla Prendergast, a premier all-rounder, also enters the qualifier in strong form. She was named in the ICC Women’s T20 Team of the Year in 2024 and clinched the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award in August 2025. Prendergast’s recent consecutive half-centuries in warm-up fixtures signal her readiness for the tournament.

Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce, known for her domestic success in England and Australia, is expected to play a crucial role for her team. As Scotland’s captain, Bryce will likely open both the batting and bowling for her side in Nepal, providing leadership and skill.

Thailand’s Natthakan Chantham, a key top-order batter, has a history of performing on significant occasions. Her previous half-century against Pakistan in 2020 and a strong score of 148 against Singapore showcase her capabilities, despite more modest recent warm-up scores.

Papua New Guinea’s Konio Oala, though relatively new to international cricket, has made a strong impression with her powerful batting. Her unbeaten 130 at the East Asia Pacific Qualifier and recent performance against Zimbabwe highlight her potential impact.

As the qualifier unfolds, these athletes are anticipated to play pivotal roles for their respective teams, making the event a must-watch for cricket fans globally.
