FCCU Launches Waste Segregation Initiative to Foster Environmental Sustainability

Lahore, In a pioneering effort to promote environmental sustainability, the Earth Watch Club at Forman Christian College University (FCCU) in collaboration with Bio-Enviro Educators (BEE), has embarked on a mission to introduce waste segregation across the campus. This initiative, part of a broader awareness campaign, aims to instill a culture of responsible waste management among students and staff.

According to Forman Christian College, the project received funding from the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Pakistan (Global UGRAD-Pakistan) under the U.S. Department of State, facilitated by IREX, and spearheaded by Mr. Muazzam Adeel, a senior Biological Sciences student and UGRAD alumnus. The initiative was marked by a seminar titled “Empowering Environmental Responsibility: Implementing Waste Segregation at FCCU” on March 26, 2024, attracting over eighty participants, including faculty and students.

The seminar featured Mr. Umar Farooq, Senior Manager of Communication at the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC), as the guest speaker. Discussions focused on the significance of waste segregation and recycling, aiming to foster an ethos of environmental responsibility within the FCCU community.

By placing waste segregation bins strategically throughout the campus, the initiative underscores the critical role of waste management in achieving sustainability goals, specifically aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

This endeavor highlights FCCU’s commitment to environmental stewardship and serves as a model for educational institutions seeking to integrate sustainable practices into their operations.
