Lahore, May 16, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry at the University College of Dentistry (UCD) conducted a series of seminars in the celebration of World Oral Health Day at the University Dental Hospital. The seminars were aimed at raising awareness regarding oral health problems.
In continuation of the series, the department held a seminar themed “Peri-Implant Health: A Question of Low or High Maintenance?” on March 14, 2022. The session was attended by the house officers and faculty members of the Community and Preventive Dentistry and Periodontology Departments.
As the key speaker, Dr. Muhammad Haseeb (Associate Professor, HoD Department of Periodontology and one of the few certified Periodontists in Pakistan) highlighted the importance of maintaining Dental Implants and advised that the patients must visit their concerned specialist who placed the implants. The specialist can, in turn, identify any ongoing pathology/complications and addressed them on time.
He further suggested to the doctors that it’s their responsibility to tell their patients about the follow up. He further explained that peri-implant health is considered to be associated with multiple factors which include, the periodontal health around the tooth, the bone in which the implant is placed, oral hygiene and the systematic health of the patient.
In his concluding remarks, Dr. Haseeb said: “Maintenance of implant health and minimization of complication in peri-implant is more important than placing implants. Therefore, doctors should increase their understanding and knowledge about implant health and longevity”.
