Lahore: The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) remains committed to empowering underprivileged families without bias, according to its chairperson, Senator Rubina Khalid. Speaking to media at the BISP Central Zonal Office, she emphasized the program’s dedication to serving all segments of society, regardless of political or religious affiliations.
The BISP currently supports over 9.8 million families across Pakistan, providing financial assistance while boosting birth registration rates by mandating B-form requirements. Senator Khalid highlighted the unique aspect of the program, acknowledging women as heads of households, a move she described as both empowering and progressive.
In Balochistan, the program has raised the Proxy Means Test score threshold to expand health and education assistance through the Benazir Nashonuma and Taleemi Wazaif initiatives. Senator Khalid also announced the Benazir Hunarmand Programme, which aims to equip women and family members with vocational skills to combat poverty.
To facilitate aid distribution, BISP is implementing a new banking model, partnering with six major banks for digital payments. Senator Khalid stated that biometrically verified bank accounts would ensure secure disbursement of aid to beneficiary women.
The program’s commitment to transparency and efficiency is underscored by a robust grievance redressal system aimed at addressing unauthorized deductions and service issues. Senator Khalid also highlighted BISP’s international recognition, noting visits from several countries to study its systems.
Senator Khalid reaffirmed BISP’s open-door policy and zero tolerance for corruption. She assured the public of strict actions against any malpractice, emphasizing that no fees are charged for surveys, and all official communication is handled via specified channels.
