Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Reaffirms PPP’s Commitment to Labor Rights on International Labour Day

Karachi, On International Labour Day, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reasserted the party’s foundational commitment to the welfare of Pakistan’s labor force, emphasizing the intertwined nature of the nation’s prosperity and the dignity of its workers.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid tribute to the martyrs of Chicago and celebrated the historical contributions of his grandfather, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in establishing Pakistan’s first-ever Labour Policy in 1972. He praised Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s efforts for empowering workers and ensuring their equitable representation within the nation’s economic framework.

Bilawal also commended his mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, for her role in restoring trade union rights that had been stripped away, and remembered the initiatives under President Asif Ali Zardari’s term, such as the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) and Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme (BESOS), highlighting their impact on poverty alleviation and worker empowerment.

He noted the Sindh government’s recent initiatives like the Benazir Mazdoor Card and housing projects for laborers, asserting these actions demonstrate PPP’s ongoing commitment to labor rights. He also stressed the party’s unique position in actively fighting for the labor class against exploitation and ignorance by other political groups.

Looking forward, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari outlined his plans to implement significant legislative reforms to further strengthen labor rights and protect workers from exploitation, reinforcing PPP’s role as a defender and advocate for the working class of Pakistan.
