Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Demands Justice in Historic Presidential Reference Case at Supreme Court

Islamabad, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), spoke to the media after attending a Supreme Court hearing regarding the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Presidential Reference. He emphasized the significance of the case and called for justice and a correction of historical records.

According to Pakistan People’s Party, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed gratitude towards the judges for finally hearing the case, which had been pending for twelve years since President Zardari submitted the reference. He highlighted the case as both a challenge and an opportunity for the judiciary to correct past mistakes and remove the stain on the institution and law. The Chairman emphasized that while justice in this case cannot bring back those lost, including Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and other martyrs of the party, it could at least restore trust between the people and the judiciary.

Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed that the people of Pakistan had long recognized Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s innocence, citing his contributions and principles, particularly in empowering the Muslim Ummah and supporting Palestine. He appealed to the court to rectify history, correct the mistake, and hold those involved in the crime accountable. The Chairman questioned the basis of the case, arguing against the death sentence given to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and emphasizing that it contradicted the principles of religion, law, and the Constitution.

The Chairman also addressed the need for the judiciary to ensure that such rulings are not used as precedents in the future. He expressed hope that the Supreme Court, under Justice Qazi Faez Isa, would close the door on such practices and prevent future attempts to control the court.

Responding to questions, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated that providing justice in the Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s case is the first step towards setting the record straight. He emphasized the need for justice not only for the PPP but for other parties as well, asserting that true justice is unattainable until it is granted in this case.

Regarding the upcoming elections, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed his trust in Justice Qazi Faez Isa and dismissed any uncertainty regarding the election date. He called for an end to traditional, divisive politics, advocating for a collective approach for the sake of the nation.

The Chairman’s remarks underscore the significance of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Presidential Reference in Pakistan’s judicial history and its implications for the political landscape of the country.
