Lahore, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, delivered a keynote address at a seminar entitled “Bhutto Reference and History” in Lahore’s Al-Hamra Hall, stressing the need for judicial reforms and enhanced political dialogue to tackle the country’s pressing issues.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reflected on the Supreme Court’s acknowledgment of the unjust trial against his grandfather, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and called the decision a historical vindication necessitating comprehensive judicial reforms. He reiterated commitments made in the Charter of Democracy, noting that while most of the agreed reforms have been implemented, the establishment of a constitutional court and the refinement of judicial appointments are pending. The PPP, he asserted, will push for these reforms to fortify the judiciary and prevent miscarriages of justice.
During his speech, Bilawal also lamented the current political climate of hostility and personal vendettas, advocating for a return to the political negotiations and reconciliation that led to the creation of the 1973 constitution and subsequent amendments under President Asif Ali Zardari. He highlighted the critical socio-economic challenges of price hikes, unemployment, and terrorism facing Pakistan and stressed the importance of political cooperation to resolve them.
Moreover, Bilawal noted the alignment of recent government initiatives with the PPP’s manifesto, including the adoption of solar energy and the distribution of ‘Kissan Cards’ in Punjab, as evidence of his party’s enduring influence on national policy.
