Babar Azam Steps Down as White-ball Captain, PCB Supports Decision

Lahore, Babar Azam, Pakistan’s cricket team captain, met with PCB Chairman Management Committee Zaka Ashraf at the PCB headquarters in Lahore to discuss various aspects of the team and World Cup performance. After consultation, Babar Azam has decided to step down as the captain of the white-ball cricket team to focus on Test cricket.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) stated that it fully supports Babar Azam’s decision. Chairman Zaka Ashraf praised Babar’s skill and dedication, acknowledging him as one of Pakistan’s finest batters and a role model for the current generation. The PCB believes this move will allow Babar to further excel in his batting career without the additional burden of captaincy. Babar has an impressive record in Test cricket, featuring in 49 matches and scoring 3,772 runs, including nine centuries and 26 half-centuries.

Additionally, the PCB announced changes in the coaching staff portfolio, including Director Cricket Mickey Arthur. The current coaches will continue working at the National Cricket Academy, with new coaching staff to be announced for upcoming series in Australia and New Zealand.
