Awami Theatre Festival 2026 Commences at Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi

Karachi: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi has launched the "Awami Theatre Festival 2026," featuring the participation of Culture and Tourism Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah as a special guest. According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the festival will present 29 plays in various languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Memoni, Balochi, Siraiki, and Sindhi. The event commenced with a performance of "Seedhi Jalebi," an Urdu play by writer and director Shakeel Shah, drawing significant attention from attendees.

The festival, which will run for 25 days, offers daily performances at 8:00 pm, with additional shows on weekends. Minister Shah emphasized the importance of cultural activities and encouraged Karachi residents to participate. He also highlighted the Sindh Government's commitment to supporting artists involved in the festival. The event will conclude before Ramadan, and no tickets are required, ensuring accessibility for all. Over 400 individuals, including artists and technical staff, contribute to the festival's production.

President of the Arts Council, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, noted the institution's ongoing support for art and culture. The festival, which has been a staple event for several years, aims to reach even the poorest residents of Karachi. With a diverse lineup of plays from various directors and writers, the festival promises a rich cultural experience for all attendees.
