Aga Khan University Partners with HEC to Boost Higher Education Quality in Pakistan

Karachi, The Aga Khan University, in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Quality Assurance Agency, has successfully conducted a three-day workshop focused on elevating the standards of higher education across Pakistan. This event, which ran from May 6 to 8, brought together educational leaders and stakeholders from Sindh and Balochistan to discuss and strategize on enhancing academic quality.

According to The Aga Khan University, the workshop served as a platform for sharing insights and best practices aimed at improving educational frameworks and achieving international quality benchmarks. President of AKU, Dr. Sulaiman Shahabuddin, emphasized the institution’s commitment to quality, which aligns with the vision of its founder, His Highness the Aga Khan. Dr. Shahabuddin highlighted AKU’s achievements in securing global accolades, including two UNESCO-supported Zairi awards for excellence in teaching and research.

The workshop also introduced the Pakistan Standards and Guidelines (PSG-2023), aimed at fostering a culture of quality at both institutional and program levels. Key discussions included the role of Teaching and Learning Support Units in enhancing faculty capabilities and enriching the student learning experience. Professor Tashmin Khamis, Vice Provost at AKU, underscored the critical role of these units in sustaining educational excellence.

Mr. Nasir Shah, Director General of HEC’s Quality Assurance Agency, praised the ongoing efforts of AKU’s Network of Quality, Teaching and Learning, acknowledging its pivotal role in upholding and advancing educational standards in Pakistan. He remarked on the long-standing partnership between HEC and AKU, which has significantly contributed to the quality of education provided to the youth of Pakistan.

As the workshop concluded, both Aga Khan University and the Higher Education Commission reaffirmed their dedication to supporting educators and academic institutions in their quest to deliver superior educational experiences and achieve academic and scholarly distinction.
